Groan

I'm a bad blogger. Not my bag. Does anyone read this anyway? I may pack it in...

365...er...50?

Gawd, I have the noblest of intentions. Really I do. But then...no follow through. Which would explain why I never post here. And why I haven't been taking my photo-a-day. And also why I weigh more now than I ever have in my LIFE (including the day I gave birth to my kid...it's bad, really bad)
But that's it. No more laziness or excuses. Here's a picture I took based on the theme "Rock Music"...desaturated to try to hide those freckles. I'm posting it to my blog after my 18-km bike ride tonight. Time to follow through! I will be much happier in front of the camera once I've shed at least 20 lbs, but until then...we can think of these as my "before" pictures.

The backyard has BEGUN!

Okay, well, somewhat. Superman built the 1st part of our deck last week, this weekend we put up the railing. Well...most of it. One section left. It looks FAAAAAH-bulous, IMHO.I did the little bit in the corner almost all by myself. Not that this photo shows much of it, bit of a gratuitous butt shot of my man who refuses to pose for the camera...LOL...I love watching him work. And I did help some, I did!

365 self portraits

Okay, so I got lazy and didn't do the first half of the year. But I will try this second half! Word of the day on July 1 was bashful...and yep, those are my real eyes. Trying to play up the good parts, wish I could do away with the freckles, but hey...you win some, you lose some ;)

The Holter

So, the past week has been a bit stressful around here. Long story short, DD has been having unexplained, sudden and severe chest pain. According to her, it's like "someone is just grabbing in there and squishing my heart really REALLY hard". So 2 trips to the ER and several tests later, we have an appointment with a cardiologist...in August. So evidently it's not serious enough to be urgent. Phew. But it's still wearing at me a tad. Thankfully it's been 3 days since her last episode. Hopefully they will dissipate and it will all be explained away with some reference to a muscle spasm or something. Hug your kidlet and their healthy heart today, you just never know.

Oh Canada

Terre de nos...
Oh Canada, terre de nos ai...ai-...ai-eux...ton
Oh Canada...ton histoire...UGH!!
STUPID NUMBER 4 FINGER NOTE IDONTKNOWWHATITISANDIHAVETOKNOWBYTOMORROWWWWW

(this is what I'm hearing as Jones prepares for her first ever piano recital)
THANKFULLY, Oh Canada if not her piece, just something she still has to learn. It's taking a while, but not bad for 2 months of lessons.

Mind you, she blows another fit about it (which she just did) we may re-evaluate her ability to handle piano lessons...

Pure Evil. Word.

OMG....read this. My name is Melanie. I am a Cinnamon Melt addict....They definitely need a 12-step program to break people of this one. No wonder I gained so much weight in Jan-Feb-March. Ack.

H2O town

Heading stateside on this rainy Saturday, Superman needs auto parts, I'm just wanting to get out of the house. A little bummed Watertown doesn't have more in the way of scrapbooking supplies for me to browse, but I do need some clothing for work this summer, so that's my main quest.

My first summer working since....wow, probably 1994? *shudder*

[un]comfortably numb

Just back from the dentist. Second filling of my life (okay...third. But this one was to replace the one I got when I was 23, so...second-ish)

He used *a lot* of anesthetic. I feel like my face is cold, tingly and sliding off on one side. I'm drooling ever so slightly and when I talk I bite my tongue. I feel *gorgeous*....snicker.

Greetings!

This one is for Jones' little sister, who turns 2 today. We (ahem) left it on the table before we went up to Ottawa, so it's in the mail now...LOL...I think it's a card sketch from Becky Fleck.

Going digital...

Still debating this one. It's cool in some ways, I turned that title out in about 15 minutes. You can use the paper again and again and again... (and again)... *Way* cheaper.

On the con side, it's somewhat antisocial unless I get a laptop, and lacks the tactile satisfaction.

Hmm. Hybrid?

Crossing the line!

In the fastest "marathon" in Ottawa's history I bet...LOL....it was all over in 10 minutes! The Kids Marathon saw 1200 kids run the final 1.195km of their 42.195 KM marathon. In the weeks leading up to the marathon, each kid had to run 41 KM. The final stretch was run on the marathon course this morning, with the finish line being the same as the actual marathoners, who crossed less than an hour later.

Jones placed 25th in her age division in straight time, 20th when you go by the chip time. In a field of 95, she's pretty proud! I'm proudest of all in the fact that she even did it. Over the course of the preparation for the race, her enthusiasm waned several times, up to and including while we were in a monster line to pick up her run kit the day before. Hey, 41 km at 8 years old....daunting task. But this morning, she was up at 6:45, ready to go! She was *very* excited about participating and very proud of all of her hard work. She can't wait to show her medal to her gym teacher tomorrow at school, who has been very encouraging and helpful in the quest to rack up those preliminary 41 kms.

And the scrappy connection? My friend Grace, fellow scrapbooker, was the one who told me about this event. Her granddaughter also ran today, with Jones. Because a lot of Ottawa schools were running kids in the event, we paired our girls up and dressed them alike in order to be able to spot them more readily. Did we ever make a good colour choice! In the sea of event-sponsored blue t-shirts, our hot pink girls stood out like sore thumbs, which was precisely our intention...we were able to spot them within seconds throughout the entire race!

Welcome Welcome Welcome!

To my new blog :)

Big weekend ahead, birthday party, visiting family we haven't seen in a while, and Jones runs her first MARATHON! Note to self, need to plug in camera batteries tonight!
